I was bored at work and saw an article on "Rating Free MMORPGs", so I had to check it out. I mean how good can something that's Free be? Turns out they are Free to download and Free to play, and some seem well done. I have Not played any yet (since I am at Work), but I'll look at the at home and in my free time. Rappelz Looks the most promising. Wikipedia Entry: It is based in a fantasy world dominated by three races of separate alignments: The Deva, guardians of light, the Asura, servants of the dark, and the Gaia, the protectors of nature. The game can be compared to games such as Lineage II Like Gala-Net's other MMO titles, Rappelz is free of subscription charges; revenue is generated through the sale of special items via the "Cash Shop". Purchasing Cash Shop items is not compulsory, though the FAQ implies that they may offer the player a distinct advantage in-game. So it looks like you can play for Free, but you can use Real World Cash to Tweak your gaming experience.
BTW, if anyone has any experience with any of these or similar "Free" Games, plz respond here. I know Guild Wars and Battlefied are Subscription Free, but they are Heavy into PvP..and I'm looking for something more balanced.
Gala-NetWebsite distributed Free online games (that I've found) All have "Cash Shops"
Corum Online Fantasy RPG - PvE/PvP (heavy on PvP)
Fly for Fun - Fantasy RPG - PvE/PvP (Heavy on flying...go figure)
Rappelz - Fantasy RPG - PvE/PvP
Space Cowboys - Sci-fi Third-person Shoote/Flight Sim - PvE/PvP
Accro Xtreme - Racing/Fps (no information found through shitty.. I mean City network).

I have a lvl 77 or so on Runescape. I played it off and on for quite ahwile before WoW came out. It is ok but I would not recommend do to graphics and quests are not that involved. Although I have not played in a very long time.
Skills are also a PiTA. Woodcutting, house building, gardening. All have their practical application...like growing your own trees and herbs to cut down to make potions or raise you wood cutting skill to get logs to make bows, etc. But it makes for a skill grind.
PvP is tier by your level in the upper levels. There is signs the have skulls on them before you enter and area. If you are at a level 10 PvP area...anyone within 10 levels of you up or down can attack you. _________________
